Darby showed up at one of our foster mom's house the day before NYE, barking to be let in. We have listed him on all the lost and found sites and called the shelters and rescues close to us, but have had no luck. That is heartbreaking because he is someone's treasured pet, we're sure. We think he is about 10 months to 1 year old.

He has excellent house manners and appears to be totally housetrained. He gets along with his foster's two large senior dogs, her mom's young golden doodle and his foster mom's 3, 12-week-old foster puppies. In fact, he would most likely do better with a fur sibling to run and play with. He doesn't bother the cat at all, except by his mere presence, lol. He was kept in a crate the first couple of nights and did not care for it at all. He was verbal about his displeasure but didn't tear up the crate. He would not walk on a leash when he first arrived but has learned to do so. He will not, however, do his business on a tether, unless it is really long, and you take him a long way from the house. And he chews through rope.

He will need a very secure, high, privacy type fence. He is a gazelle and can clear the top of a 4 foot fence with ease. Darby is a very smart pup. The first night he was allowed to sleep outside the crate, he did an excellent job and slept on the dog bet with one of the other pups. However, he apparently went out the cat door, over the 4ft. fence and wandered around a bit, was up on the front porch whining to get in 3 times between 4 and 5AM. Being unable to wake anyone to let him in, he went back over the fence and back in the cat door. He was sleeping peacefully on the dog bed when the foster mom woke up. The only way we know what happened was that the doorbell cam caught him on video.

He loves to run. His foster mom takes her pups and her mom's pup for a run every day after they eat, and he runs, plays with them and stays close. He has good recall by clapping your hands.

Seriously, this is an exceptional pup and would be an asset to any family that has the right environment for him. We are going to be careful with his placement, to ensure success. He bonds readily.

The adoption fee is $325, he has been brought up to date on all the vaccines and preventatives and will be neutered1/19. We are a small, home based, all volunteer rescue. There is no CEO making $1million a year. ALL the money goes in the care and maintenance of the animals.

We're in NE Alabama, so if transport is needed it will be an extra $180 and will depend on the availability of a transport service to your area.  Or you can come get him. He rides great in a car.

We are a home based, not for profit organization in Northeast Alabama that helps place forgotten and unwanted pets in forever homes.  We are an all volunteer, 501(c)3  organization.  We rescue pets from high kill shelters, prior to being euthanized, as well as strays and unwanted pets.

We do not adopt to "outside only" homes nor do we adopt to anyone who wishes to crop, dock, or do any other alterations except the spaying and neutering of their pets.  All pets are completely vetted, up to date on all vaccines, and given rabies certificates.
